ACCESS DENIED

The NHS has been coming after the only GP in the UK that provides gender affirming care to under 18s. This is an attack on the only, limited healthcare that we have, with no concerns found true. They seem to be specifically targeting informed consent, with several references to neurodivergence and the process through which patients get access to care.

For the past five years, NHS Sussex has funded access to gender affirming care and support to over 2500 trans, non-binary & intersex patients at WellBN GP Practice based in Brighton & Hove. Throughout this time WellBN have been subject to several investigations and inspections fuelled by malicious complaints, none of which found any concerns.

However, a recent legal case against WellBN and GP Partner Dr Sam Hall, targeting their informed consent model of care, has resulted in NHS Sussex demanding WellBN’s data on young people from our TNBI community. They are justifying this investigation on the grounds of alleged “harm” being done to these young people, and propose to take away their gender affirming care.

Sam Hall who has been leading this support has since been removed from WellBN, and with support from NHS England, NHS Sussex continue laying out plans to take and utilise our data.

We consider this entrapment, a violation of privacy, an escalating attack on our autonomy. To the NHS: access is denied. To our data, to our bodies, and to our autonomy.

From TKDB: we are incredibly concerned about the emphasis on neurodivergence seen in this report, as we believe the NHS may be trying to use it to claim that neurodivergent trans people can't access gender affirming healthcare via informed consent.
