US EMBASSY LONDON, 3 FEBRUARY 2025- 9 young activists from Trans Kids Deserve Better staged a craft-in today outside the US embassy. Sitting in mournful silence, the activists each crafted a friendship bracelet, adorned with trans flags. Each activist then took to the megaphone to send a message of hope and resilience to trans youth in the USA following the onslaught of transphobic legislation being passed under Trump's regime. Tying their bracelets to the railings of the embassy gardens, the activists left in their trail a symbol of solidarity and friendship from across the Atlantic.
One activist said ‘We’ve been weaving our threads of solidarity because no matter what, your community cannot be taken from you. The trans community is so powerful and so magical and it will always be there.’ while another added ‘I cried for you when I read the first executive orders. I cried for you when it felt like nobody shared my tears and fear because I knew all the danger this posed to the rights we fought so hard for. The rights that we deserve as human beings. I have shed a lot of tears, we all have. But today, I not only cry for you, I fight for you because nobody should have to see their human rights stripped away, because nobody deserves to go through what you are going through. So I stand with you, across the ocean, my trans siblings in America because you deserve better. Because nobody is free until we all are.’ The demonstration concluded with these final remarks ‘Transness has existed for millennia before the United States of America and it will outlive it. We have the strength of our ancestors behind us, the love of our siblings beside us and hope for the future generations we won’t give up on. We will keep living, both as an act of resistance and an act of love, and we will win.
Trans Kids Deserve Better stands with trans youth in the US in this unprecedented legislative onslaught. Solidarity and collective mobilisation will see our community through.
